Tax Clinic Project

Since 2010, the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Canada, Inc. has sponsored a free tax preparation clinic and arranged for volunteers to prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation. This out-reach program has been effectively managed by the Chapter at the Kababayan Centre, Toronto.

Last April 16th, 2016 saw the brods at the Kababayan Community Centre in Toronto from 8am to 4pm again handling this annual Income Tax Preparation Clinic.

That year’s Tax Clinic was another inspiring success, kudos to the joint efforts of the volunteer Accountants, the Brods led by GP Bogs Cabanatan and the staff of the Kababayan Community Centre and the support of the Betan Wives.

This year, the volunteers processed returns for 70 individuals, the most since the first year saw 45 tax filers being assisted.

In the past years, most of the assisted tax filers were of Filipino descent.

This year more than half were of different ethnic backgrounds i.e. Tibetan, Mongolian, Columbian, Mexican, which speaks to the acceptance and popularity of this service program within the immediate community.

After having their income tax prepared and their questions addressed, everyone who availed of this service echoed their appreciation for the practical and friendly assistance.

This program is an opportunity to further spread awareness and extend a positive image of the Beta Sigma Fraternity in the community.

Owing to the growing success of the Income Tax Clinic, the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Canada, Inc. has pledged to continue sponsoring and managing this event annually.
